Faculty development workshop on ‘Writing learning objectives’

A faculty development workshop on writing learning objectives was facilitated by the Associate Dean, Dr P Ravi Shankar on Friday, 26th May 2017 from 1 to 2.45 pm in the Media Room. The Associate Dean of Student Affairs, Dr Patra, the Assistant Dean of Premedical, Dr Cox, Professor of Microbiology, Dr Dakubo, Assistant Professor for Gross Anatomy lab and Histology, Ms. Sylvia Sequeira, Assistant Lecturer, Dr Tellamina, Academic Secretary, Dr Selvaraj and Dr Gokul participated. The Dean, Dr Klir and the Director of Quality Assurance, Dr Balasubramanium was present during the opening minutes.

 

Dr Shankar highlighted the importance of learning objectives to improve student learning, for purposes of writing a curriculum and for meeting accreditation standards. The three domains of knowledge, attitude and skills were introduced and the facilitator mentioned that the attitude or affective domain had traditionally been neglected. The faculty participants worked in two small groups. They wrote learning objectives from the three domains with reference to the learning scenario provided to each group. The session concluded with a summing up by the participants. The activity-based session will help faculty members use learning objectives to strengthen student learning.
