The first integration was held at AIMU to provide students with an integrated approach to learning the basic sciences focused around a disease. The seminar was held on Friday, 13th October at 1 pm in room 315. The disease chosen for the maiden effort was Bronchial Asthma. Bishnu Byroju from MD5 was the team leader. The other student presenters and team members were Kavya who presented on Epidemiology of asthma, Augustine who explained the relevant anatomy and Uday who explained the normal histology of the airways and the changes in bronchial asthma. Sanam described the physiological aspects while Emmanuel focused on biochemical changes in the condition. Tolu explained the immunology of asthma and the hygiene hypothesis. Sreeraj and Godwin explained the pathophysiology of the disease while Sadhvi talked about how to diagnose asthma. Lincy provided an overview of the drug treatment of asthma while Maksuda counseled Godwin (playing the role of a patient) on the correct use of a metered dose inhaler. Shivani Modi explained how knowledge of the basic science is useful in asthma and Vishnu concluded the seminar by revisiting the case in the light of knowledge gained during the session. He also quizzed the audience using a few multiple choice questions. Dr Dakubo, Dr Garg and Dr Ravi were the faculty facilitators for the integration seminar.
