Message from the Dean

Dr. P Ravi Shankar
Dean of Medicine

Dear students,

On behalf of the AIMU family I would like to welcome you to the American International Medical University and to the beautiful island of Saint Lucia.

The institution provides high quality education in Medicine and Nursing at a competitive price and the St Lucia campus is well equipped and technologically advanced. The motto of the institution is ‘Healthcare innovation to serve humanity’. We try to live up to this motto every day.

The year 2017 and the first quarter of 2018 have been exciting times for us. The institution has strengthened teaching-learning of both the Basic and the Clinical Sciences. We have introduced new online courses focusing on Nutrition, Patient safety and healthcare quality improvement and Integrative medicine. We have introduced system-wise learning of the subjects of Pathology, Physical diagnosis and Pharmacology during the fourth semester. We focus on strengthening prescribing skills and on educating our students to use medicines rationally. From summer 18 we will be offering a new course on Physician introduction to global technology and society. The clinical rotations are being strengthened and closer linkages are being established with the clinical sites.

We offer access to the online library ‘Access Medicine’ and are working toward strengthening our online resources. Our students learn to critically appraise scientific literature and we offer an activity-based health humanities module to the second semester medical students. This module offers opportunities for interprofessional learning as medical and nursing students learn together.

We are confident that your time at AIMU will be informative, productive and enjoyable and will prepare you to be a doctor of tomorrow.
